Disaster day…

So Sunday came and went, there was a little hope as when he had her apart he was able to turn the engine, which we thought was great news, he also was able To fix the radiator and put the pump back on, all good until he had her back together, well in part, then the real bad news came…she had a hole in the cylinder head and the chance of more interal issues…

Such a shock after a ray of hope the day before, and now the hard decision, do we invest the little money we have left on her to then be told more would need to be done, in the meantime being stuck in a remote area, having her toed to cairns would be just as much as attempting to fix her there! Couldnt cope with it all so I went to the room as Kieran discussed our options with joe.

Kieran came back and we chose we couldn’t afford the fixing option anymore, the next thing to do was to find a way back to cairns , as it was closer than trying to get to Darwin, train is only a couple times a week and bus was 3 times aweek but it was expensive and limiting on what luggage we could take! I’d judt stocked up in cairns on so much food! …such a waste!

As I started to organise, Kieran had headed back to find out bus times only to find out that a lovely lady doing a jigsaw puzzle, had over heard our troubles, ran back to her husband to comfirm that they would give us a lift back to cairns in the morning! How kind!! Kieran went to meet them and started chatting, sized up the room that we had to get our stuff in and came to tell me the generous news.

We decided that we were going to leave the van pretty much bare as it was pointless, she will only be of interest to someone who wants to either use her for parts or some one to restore, we couldn’t afford a new van or car when we got back and we didn’t want to have to carry it all around with us, especially as we have decided to cut our losses in Australia and move on to Asia.

we separated items out as we packed, which was a crazy job! Everything was everywhere as we had moved in to the van!… Just piled it in to the room,

So we had piles of keep, unsure , give to Margaret and David (lovely couple helping us) and give to Joe and Jo (mechanic/the caravan park owners) Mostly consisted of food!!…

By 11pm , which I don’t think is to bad a go! Considering we only started at 3pm! We were done! Well in a fashion, we had managed to do our washing and I meet and we passed on our bits to Margaret and David and bagged up the rest to give in the morning!

It’s sad how something’s go, but the positive we can take from it is the people that are helping us, has soften the blow slightly to what could of been a way worse situation, although at the time it felt the world hated us and our dreams were utterly shattered!…

  1. Omg that room looks just like your bedroom used to at home – some things never change ?

You were so lucky to find some amazing people to help you.

Look forward to seeing the Thailand pics on what has been a fantastic trip even though it might not have lasted as long as you wanted. It’s still been a great achievement and one you will always remember and look back on.

Enjoy the last few weeks and then it’s back to the reality we’ve all put up with while you’ve been away ?
