This place is lovely, much more lovelier than I thought it would be, yes there isn’t much there but it’s so beautifully peaceful and honest that it makes it a perfect place for a relaxed day.
We had to do the old train up, and was cheaper to do a return, not too interested in the sky rail, I’m sure it’s pretty but we have done a fair few and I don’t deliberately try and give Kieran a heart attack from all the heights we’ve done, I do love him. ;). You can drive but where’s the fun in that!! When there’s an old fashion train that takes you to all the hot spots and certainly less stressful!
We got on at cairns central, wasn’t a 100% sure where the station was so we started following a mother and daughter as they had a brochure about it , so logical thinking to follow, or so we thought… they started acting a little odd and well I got the impression they thought we were stalking and going to rob them, ha!
Well anyway funny people aside, we got on the train just in time and was sat near a lovely couple from nsw.
We tried to create my mum and dads photo but we had a problem…Friggin bars across the window?!? …
So my mum and dad are the top picture, we are the bottom behind prison bars, if you didn’t already know ;), the nice lady that took the picture is a worker on the train and said that a boy fell out of the train 6 years ago and since then bars went up and it now looks like a prison! Such a shame! Don’t know the ins and outs on what exactly happened but neglectfulness of others has ruined this shot ! and I’m sure many more!
The ride was slow and beautiful, just full of green!!…
Great shot of the train at a bend..
You also get a 10 minuet stop off at Barron falls, the couple sat next to us had a picture from their last trip up that showed three people sitting and sunbathing at the peak of the falls?! Not sure how the hell they got there but there are definitely enough places in Australia for you not to have to risk your life to sunbathe…
Also you go over a really cool, unique bridge that passes another water fall …
So as we got to the station we had to try and take abetter picture of “back in the day” and now…well it’s changed at the station too!!…
We took this one first but realised later that this was the correct one just they added a stupid statue …
Not perfect but the best I could do dad, haha…
We then headed up to the butterfly sanctuary,
…which wasn’t that big and if your not a fan of butterflies, which I can’t understand why not, then it probably most definitely wouldn’t be your thing, but we loved it.
As soon as you walk in you are brushed passed by an array of colours…
They have a breeding program which was far more interesting than we thought it would be, in the inclosure was this beast!!..
Then headed back in to the main part to see our luck of having dome land on us…
Bless my first one had to be a roughed up, old one…
Really easy picking them up, just pop your finger in front of them and wiggle it just enough that they hop on then slowly wiggle them fully on!…
Kieran’s first one was on his neck! …
So I totalled 4 at one time, Kieran topped it with 5 including one on his head! Like mine that stayed there for a while, haha…
Next was to have a walk round the amount of shops and market stools they had! Was brilliant everyone was friendly and some of the stuff was wonderful, and hand made there.
We found a lady that sold just old toys, abs she had one of these!! Either my dad or granddad had one of these!! …
We then went to the market place where we got talking to a jeweller who worked with opal. I told him that my dad had brought some back for my mum, with that he said help yourself to a piece so you can go back with some too! Was so lovely of him, was funny as when he was showing us rough opal we spotted 3 pieces that he quickly took away and said that he could still work with them…
Reached hunger point and tubs had a big fatty breakfast , and I had a jacket potato, not had one in ages!! , was lush!…
Then it was time to go back to catch the last train, first we headed down to the river near the station, so peaceful…
If he insists of doing stupid faces all the time he leaves me no choice but to use them ;).
The train ride back was peaceful and really relaxing we both nearly nodded off, but the child needs his snake sweets… Reluctant to share…
