As Captain Jack Sparrow says…” But why is the rum gone?!”

visiting Bundaberg, the home of the world famous Bundaberg rum!… Ha! The place well, seemed to smell of rum!!

We arrived just in time for a tour of the whole place, unfortunately due to the amount of fumes and flammables pretty much nothing other than yourself and the clothes you are in are allowed, so no photos! But we had a walk, tasted the molasses (gross) and smelt the strongest and purest alcohol, obviously you can’t drink it, the % was something like 80% ?!? Could be wrong, but swear it was higher than 50!

We learnt and smelt the process of making rum…well to a certain extent without giving it all away, it’s all so much more technical than you’d think, but what myself and Kieran thought was really bad that the machines and most of the process is operated in a control room, with one man… No wonder there’s no jobs!! One man!!! Just sat on his chair drinking rum!!… Well, lied about the rum ;).

The next bit was my favouritests bits of alllllll!!!!! Tasting!!!… I like rum, didn’t  know much about it other than it makes lovely cocktails but didn’t realise the amount of choice there is with rum!! So we tried a rum version of a flavoured cider, peach and rum, delicious, tasted a little like an ice tea! Kieran being the sensible soul he is knowing he was driving just stuck to the one, and that meant I got his next free one :). Another style of cider sarsaparilla flavour, ok but not as nice, the other I tried was a liquor that you can only buy from them, toffee and banana, strong but with milk it was like an adult milkshake…tempted to buy but isn’t really practical to travel with, so it will be my purchase when I get home, the joys of being able to shop online!!

Did the museum, but  everything was covered in the tour, apart from the fact the factory burnt down years ago, but leaked into the nearby stream and intoxicated and killed the fish!! Sorry but you have to laugh…

Myself feeling very mellow, Kieran had a very boring drive to Agnes Water…
